Addition of China to the Brown Marmorated Stink Bug (BMSB) Emerging Risk Country list

We have received notification via Import Industry Advice Notice 20-2022 from DAWE advising of the addition of China to the Brown Marmorated Stink Bug (BMSB) Emerging Risk Country list for the remainder of the 2021-22 BMSB season.

Although our initial enquiries indicate that no additional resources will be required by the department to conduct the new inspections and delays should therefore be minimised on Chinese origin goods.

As a result of detections of live BMSB in some containerised commodities originating in China, There will be an increase in random verification inspections (by way of a seals intact inspection) to the following goods:

  1. Goods manufactured in, or shipped from China

  2. FCL / FCX containers – for goods shipped in sealed 6 hard sided containers and,

  3. Goods tariffed as Chapters 39, 68, 69, 70, 73, 84, 85 and 89.

If Brown Marmorated Stink Bug is detected, goods will be directed for onshore treatment. LCL / FAK containers and break bulk goods (including those shipped on flat rack or in open top containers) are presently out of scope for increased inspection activities.
