Khapra beetle measures:Phases 4 and 5, and extension of Phase 6A measures
We wish to advice that the Department of Agriculture, Water and the Environment has issued Import Industry Advice Notice 232-2021 implementing urgent actions addressing the risk of khapra beetle (Trogoderma granarium) entering Australia with it's phase (4 & 5) expected to commence in the early part of 2022.
While Phase 4 is expected to Introduce a revised phytosanitary certification requirements for exported other-risk plant products, phase 5 is mainly focusing on introducing phytosanitary certification requirements on seeds for sowing from all countries and arriving via all arrival modes.
The Department warns a possible exportation of any goods or container upon arrival in the country if the requirements were not met.
Meanwhile, extension of Phase 6A measure wil be implemented to those all FCL/FCX containers exported on or rom 15 of December this year to help minimize the risk of introduction and spread of khapra beetle to high-risk rural areas including those that are are unpacked in a rural grain growing area in the country.
The additional postcodes to be included for rural nut growing areas of Australia are:
4569, 4517, 4518, 4858 and 456, For split postcodes, measures will apply to the rural areas of the postcode only.
